Former governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose has queried the ‘alleged’ disappearance of $1.6bn from the Excess Crude Account.
The former governor accused President Muhammadu Buhari of leaving just $631m in the ECA, when he met $2.05bn there, on assuming office in 2015.
According to Fayose, while speaking via his Twitter handle on Friday, the present government withdrew $1bn for the fight against Boko Haram, yet the insurgent group has waxed stronger than it was in 2015.
Within three weeks, $1.6bn gone from the Excess Crude Account. $631m now left in ECA that Buhari met $2.05bn in 2015. From the same ECA, they took $1bn purportedly to fight the same Book Haram that is even more stronger than it was in 2015. I warned!

However, aide to the President, Tolu Ogunlesi, has said no money has walked oug of the ECA.
See his analysis below
This news of $600m walking away is FALSE, Matthew, and a wild and baseless allegation like this undermines your bona fides as a Nigeria expert. And I’m going to show you why it’s fake news — the ECA Balance is not a secret, the balance is published every month.

Anyone who’s been tracking the ECA Balance — & as I said this is public because it’s released to the Governors during every NEC (NEC is monthly) & published in the press statement @akandeoj issues after every NEC — will know that the $1bn for Security hasn’t been fully drawn down
