Croatia International, Luka Modric, became the first player not named Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi to win the much coveted Ballon D’or award since 2018 after clinching the award the award yesterday in France.
The diminutive midfielder who also won FIFA best player for 2018 was rewarded for a stellar season that saw him win the champions league for Real Madrid and also took his national team, Croatia, to a second place finish at the just concluded FIFA World cup tournament in Russia.
The Real Madrid midfielder revealed how honoured he is to have won the award when interviewed by journalists at the end of the award ceremony in France yesterday.
