Police being used by FG to render Melaye useless, politically – Ozekhome

Mike Ozekhome (SAN), lead counsel to senator Dino Melaye currently being held by police over allegations of attempted murder, has said that the federal government was using police to ensure Melaye becomes politically irrelevant.

According to the lawyer, the timing of Meleya’s  his incarceration in Police custody, both at the SARS office at Guzape, Abuja, and the Police hospital at Area 1, Garki, Abuja, is a perfect plot to render his political career comatose.

“It would be recalled that Melaye had complained to the world that the Kogi State, Governor in his desperate attempts to undo Dino Melaye politically, had stage-managed his botched recall from the Senate, which process failed ignominiously even while he was chained to a hospital bed like an animal by the same Nigeria Police.

“Distinguished Senator Dino Melaye, has, for quite some time, been receiving fusillades of politically motivated attacks, on his life, political career and health. His offence, that has attracted these attacks upon his person, is that he is exposing and speaking out against the anti-people policies of both the federal government under President Buhari, and the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, who governs his state.

Ozekome, in a statement on Monday, said Melaye’s outspokenness about the poor performance of the federal government and Kogi state government under Yahaya Bello, after dumping the ruling APC for PDP has earned him a lot of enemies.

He also added that pleas to police, to grant Melaye  administrative bail, because of his health, has so far fallen on deaf ears
