It was a pathetic scene when six people met their untimely death while seven others suffered various degrees of injury in a road accident involving two Vectra model cars. The accident which occurred 6.30pm yesterday along Bauchi-Maiduguri road near Tirwun village, about 10 kilometres to Bauchi metropolis, attracted sympathisers when the victims were rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, Bauchi by the rescue team of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).
An eyewitness said the cause of the accident was a commercial motorcycle rider who caused an obstruction on the road, leading to both vehicles colliding in an attempt to avoid the motorcycle rider.
The two vehicles, which had registration numbers BF 769 JNN and BF 371 JNN, belonging to the same owner, were said to be returning from Potiskum, Yobe State and Jos, Plateau State.
Confirming the incident to journalists, the Sector Commander, FRSC, Bauchi State command, Mamman Zakariya blamed the accident on over speeding and reckless driving by the drivers.
Mr Mamman said the corpses of the deceased had been deposited at the teaching hospital mortuary while the other seven injured persons are receiving treatment.
The sector commander cautioned road users against over speeding while on the highways to avoid accidents.
