Amy Winehouse dies at 27

Popular music diva, Amy Jade Winehouse died today in her home in Camden Square Northern London. Amy, whose music was a blend of r&b, soul and jazz gained widespread popularity in 2006 through her album “back to black”. The album which included the song “Rehab” won her 5 Grammy awards including song and record of the year making her the first British singer to win five Grammys including three of the “big four”.

Despite her amazing talent Amy Winehouse was also known for drug abuse and alcohol. She received extensive publicity over her addictions and was a regular subject of tabloid news from 2007.

In 2008, Winehouse’s mum Janis in an interview with Sunday mirror expressed her fears over Winehouse’s habits saying “I’ve known for a long time that my daughter has problems. But seeing it on screen rammed it home. I realise my daughter could be dead within the year. We’re watching her kill herself, slowly.

“I’ve already come to terms with her death. I’ve steeled myself to ask her what ground she wants to be buried in, which cemetery. Because the drugs will get her if she stays on this road.” When the Police found Winehouse, she was already dead. An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday to determine the cause of death.

Her death reminds me so much of Aliyah’s, they were both young, talented and bursting with life, really sad. RIP Amy.
