Labor, FG Finally Agree

The Federal Government and Labor have finally reached an agreement on the implementation of the minimum wage act. The agreement has come after several rounds negotiations between the Fg and Labor. Initially, the Federal Government had argued that the minimum wage bill was not a wage review since workers salaries had been increased just last year by 53 percent, Labor had however insisted that the minimum wage agreement must cut across boards and apply to every category of workers.

After several meetings that ended without an amicable position in sight, the labor and fg have agreed on Tuesday that the implement the minimum wage bill will cut across boards. The Federal Government’s negotiating team comprised the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Pius Anyim; Head of Service, Prof Oladapo Afolabi; Minister of Labor, Chukwuemeka Wogu and the Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku. The Minister of Labor reassured that no one would be victimized by the Government over the role they played. The Minister of Information said labour would communicate with the government when NECs of the NLC and TUC had worked out the details of the implementation of the agreement.
