Fuel Subsidy: 3 Killed In Lagos, 2 Killed In Kano During Protests

A total of five peaceful protesters were killed today across the country. 3 protesters were killed in Lagos, while 2 were killed in Kano.

The extra-judicial killings were unwarranted because the protesters were peaceful and unarmed. Three peaceful protesters at the Pen Cinema area of Agege, Lagos, allegedly by one CSP Segun Fabunmi and Victor Okafor, the DPO of Pen Cinema police station driving a vehicle with registration number RS 101 LA. The police shot and killed  after brutally torturing him on the street.

Pictures of the brutality meted out on Ademola Aderinlo have been widely circulated, the other two protesters killed in Lagos were shot when the policemen tried to disperse protesters.

In Kano, the police also killed two other peaceful protesters today at the protest rallies there.   Many injuries have also been reported.

Helicopters gunships were seen hovering over the Gani Fawehinmi Park, Ojota, where over 150,000 gathered at the venue of the Save Nigeria Rally. All the protest rallies organised by the NLC and TUC terminated at the Gani Fawehinmi Park.

  3. i think d best to do now is to revert his decision good or bad d whole process shows nigerians dont like his action..remember de voted him -i didnt anyway-so he should listen to dem..otherwise he may be a scapegoat..it ll be too early to forget algeria, tunisia, egypt, and libya..he may also be a victim particularly now dat police have started shootin at ppl on his order.

  4. You can say what U like, all you asholes and idiots, Mr Good Jonathan is not the problem, we are d problem, what has d subsidy removal to do wit d unwaranted hike in prices seconds after it was anounced? Wicked Nigerians are really using d fools against dis good government. U betta shut up if u don’t know wat ur ploblem is

Nw you want to add more its not possible…what ȋ̝̊̅§ D̶̲̥̅̊ assurance that D̶̲̥̅̊ money will be spent judiciously ?

  7. mr president, are u alive? Whom do u think is reponsible for all this killings? Oh mr president innocent once are dying and u are watching. U told us u once had no shoes: u once surfered. After this theirs comet a judgement. The eyes are much.

  8. considerng d situatn of thngs in our country 2day,subsidy remova would have nt bn necesary if nt bcs of dose heartless stupid calous and self centered nonentities who sit and covet our fuel to satisfy themselves nd their family alone jst bcs God gave them dat opportunity 2 b their.Mr G. Jonathan shld beta apoint a chekmatng comission like EFCC to faithfully adress d NNPC body so dat d anual horible record of subsidy estimates might be normalised.fank u

  9. tel mr president dat if he as 4goting,he was once in our stage,he meet people in dat stage,ad some ar still comeing 2 dat stage.in dis country we ar over 130 millon jobless youth,mr president is takeing over 3 billon as feeding money in a year,he does nt buy fuel ad cloth.all d things he is useing is free.ad he still take salary.it s not 2much if he use is salary 2 pay 4 d fuel.

  10. Naij my Naija! most of u guys don’t even know the meaning of subsidy to be able to come to this stage and argue it, so i would forgive some of ur idiotic ideas. The presidency is not an individual, it’s an office filled with advisers, experts in every sector of the economy, that makes jonah a figure head. Reps from every tribe, religion and sect in naija are @ that office why are u killing the man, to some extent one mallam is abusing him like his mate. That mallam i hope he remembers the dreaded boko haram that is already dividing this country.

  11. Goodluck shod hav repair all d refinaries, build more power stations, build more rail ways/roads,empower d youth by build industries dat can employ people & many oda tins b4 removing fuel subsidy. But in contray he shod hav inform nigerians & let them b prepared b4 d fuel subsidy wil be remove more ova it shouldnt hav been on the 1st of january when ppl are still enjoying there holidays & when tins are jst begin.mr presido listen to d yelling of d ppl now there is stil time b4 u bcom d last presido of 9ja.

  12. I see So many dooshbags around here. They say Goodluck has done a great job by removing subsidy but do not realize that the average Nigerian earns less than N500 per day. How would one cope with such move when the nation’s economy solely rely on this commodity? And To the policemen who have chosen to behave senselessly irrational in this situation by dispersing peaceful protesters and to the extent of killing some, remember your salary is paid through our sweat and the subsidy removal is in no way of any benefit to you either. #OccupyNigeria

  13. Note ye that d mafia of oil marketers and importers are d greatest beneficiaries of d so called subsidy. They are also granted tax exempt by FG.
Must Nigeria continue to borrow to subsidize oil? If we must, then IMF must continue to dictate for us on wat policies to implement.
If there ar functionable private refinaries in Nig, dis Oligopolist dat cald themselves importers will not continue to thrive.
Let d deregulation of d downstream be implementd, let d subsidy be removed. What dis means is that there will be many supplies in d Nig markt, dis will in turn encourage competition and attendant lower cost. Hence d upstream will sell d crude to d indeginous refinaries instead of exporting ou resources. We should be exporting refined oil and not crude oil, dats what Mr Good Jonathan care about, we should not export our crud oil at a cheap rate only to buy d refined oil at a higher cost and borrow to subsidiz d pric , what a craze? D worst is dat d share of d subsidy going into d oil was so minute compared to d huge amount borrowed as subsidy, we regard cheap fuel as the only benefit we get from d Natio’s oil wealth. This is a long term policy dat will change d face of dis country for good. Get it!! Those few microscopic flu, idiots and fat cows that has been holding dis country in hostage, dat feed from d subsidy will soon start crying, and dat was d reason why they are fueling crises, strik and bokoharam so as to prevent Mr GEJ from removing d subsidy. We shoul not join them to crucify our dear God sent President. , much to be gained on removal of d subsidy. dis is one good price we hav to pay for a beta NIGERIA. NLC should rather educate d masses. Do we care only about today? God pls help Mr. Good Jonathan to actualise dis good dream of his, Amen.

  14. Nothing Good Has Ever Comes from Our leaders, the Country has become “BARMUDAS TRIANGLE”. The best is impossible while the worse is yet to Come. The police that kill this innocent soul must not Go unpunished.

  15. We hav 2 b knw wht subsidy is all abut b4 releasin abusve words 4rm our mouth 2 d presdnt. Is he d 1 dat increase d price of fuel….NO…. Should we continue 2 pay 4 subsidy while d country collpse. Only d fools wll commnt on dis now & 4get abut d future. Pls leav dis so calld leaders tryin 2 bring down our country. Subsidy is d only way out. Alot of moni hs gone in dis so calld subsidy. Indiorance is d key

  16. Deregulatn brings abt comptitn wch wil cause price to fall, but dis is wrngly timed n gej in not d right man 4 d job, gudlok had shown weakns in d ability of actualizn d nig drm,4 almst 2 yrs wot has he done 4 nigs, nothin, existin prblms re persistn,

  18. It’s painful that we nigerians don’t understand what jonathan is trying to do for nigeria and nigerians. He wishes good for us but we seem not to understand him. I urge my fellow nigerians to please letgive him a chance.

  19. It’s nt gud for d soldiers to be killing the innocent ones for Godsake,mr president am begging u in d name of God to have sympathy on we d masses.i beg u listen to we d poor pls sir,u remember d wrds u do say,dt u were once witout no shoes,dt if u can nw,den we too can also have.sir dis is endtime, but atleast before we go to our creator, lets enjoy our economy before we die.tank u sir.

  22. To be candid is not bad if 9ja refuse to subsidise fuel or deregulate our fuel sectors but is very bad wen we dont ave wat it takes on ground to deregulate our sector. we lack electricity, kno train facility and we dont use any other means of transportation as such as petrol. den why should gvt den enback on total deregulation i.e 100%. i think if they ave a better idea they suppose to ave make it a gradual action and attempt by removing 25% while they watch the behaviour in the market and it impact on the masses. if it work den we proceed from there rathet GEJ choose to hold masses to ransome. I think is lack of administration on the part of his advisers. they refuse to realise room was not build in a day and the amount they use in subsidising fuel does not move up in one day, but in esperience gvt want to remove it at once it ill tell badly on pple and masses even the rich will be wounded. so let GEJ think twice and link his saliver by revise his action. thanks nigeria.

  23. Nigerians, most pple didn’t understand d meaning of subsidy, with my little understanding president GEJ is nt killing d masses, what he is doing is just a bad timing,I think what he needs to do is to addressed d masses again.nlc n tuc we all understand ur effort n I give u kudos,Mr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan do wat bless for our beloved country NIGERIA.nigerians d price is much we all knw but let’s give him chance to finish.I believe we will all give him our prayers at d end of d day.president GEJ pls instruct d cops to stop d killing of innocents soul they re only protesters.they mean no harms, they just want their voice to be heard.GOD BLESS NIGERIA N NIGERIANS

  24. Obasanjo maintain Nigeria and provided good infrastructure with 700,000 barel of oil @ $56/barel. Now Goodluck now need to remove subsidy to maintain Nigeria even when we are generating 2.2m barel/day and selling at $150/barel. I pity those who are in favour of Gej. Babangida is an angel compare to this animal. Has anyone seen his ph.d certificate? ph.d is more of analysis but, dis man is a disgrace to Nigerian ph. d faculty. Ask where is d foreign reserve Obj left ($42b). He has spent all.

  25. You need to see what’s going on along ibadan/ife express as miscreants takes advantage of the situation in the country to rob people and you’ll realize why some people need to die for nigeria to become stable.

  26. If you are supporting the issue of fuel subsidy removal, it means you don’t know what your right is because you can not one day goad the new price per litre. Therefore, stand up and fight for your rights.

  27. I REGRET VOTING FOR JONATHAN, I THOUGHT HE WAS GOOD NOT KNOWING HE WAS A GOAT. HIS PARENT MADE A MISTAKE WHEN GIVEING HE GOODLUCK HE IS GOODLUCK JONATHAN STUPID ANIMAL USELESS MAN. HE TOUGHT WE FOOL NOT KNOWING THAT HE IS A FOOL. BADLUCK WE DONT WANT ANYMORE IN NIGERIA MR IDIOT.OLE THIFE YOU WANT CARRY MONEY AWAY ABI.

  28. he who die bc of strik die for as a fool,u are bleamin our president,hw many of u hv oil wel in his compound, comunity or in ur town, u wnt him 2 repair d refinary wit his panis or do other things wt his blood,is it only him dat concluded all of it?if d bleamers hv oil in there house then let them bring it out, refine it and sold it at there own way. Whosoever that wil curse the president shall be cursed forever. God blessed Nigeria.

  29. 31. You may be surprise that some, if not all of the NLC leaders are payed by the selfish people that has been negatively benefiting from the subsidy to make Nigerians to rally and demostrate. If you involve yourself and kill yourself, be sure you will be burried and Nigeria must still move forward galantly. Lets relax, president Goodluck is about to take Nigeria to the promise land…it may pain now, but be sure in no time from now we shall look back and laugh@ our pains. Goodluck is our leader and he is God sent.

  32. Mr presidennt is tryin his best to make nigeria well oganise he knew dat big company and idustrial dont want to contribute in nigerian’s electricity and he decide to increase fuel so dat they will not afford the price to refiill thire generator.

  33. I wonder why those in leadership cannot see the handwriting on the wall and will resort to lies, intrigues, and subtafuge to moralise us this time, when imperical facts has etched revolting imagery of our nation state. Lots of unsavory revelations will emerge from this folishness the leadership is confusing for mettle. It potends bad omen.We have passed the brink with our helpless security situation, with the subsidy issue, we are heading for the precipice may God help us.

  34. Day 2:
    RE-CLAIM NIGERIA.
    Fellow Nigerians,
Nigeria belongs to all of us. Nobody has any greater stake or right to her than you and I.
We must therefore reclaim Nigeria from our tormentors. The present struggle is not just about the removal of subsidy on petroleum. It is also about good governance and  also
about a fight against the unbelievable level of corruption in government.

Our tormentors said we must sacrifice to secure our future. No sermon is as powerful as a good personal example. They must lead by example and we would follow.

Our demand should be the following and we would accept nothing less. It is also non-negotiable.

    OUR CHARTTER

    1. THERE MUST BE IN PLACE A LAW THAT MAKES STEALING PUBLIC FUNDS AN OFFENCE  PUNISHABLE BY PUBLIC EXECUTION.

    2. THE IMMUNITY CLAUSE MUST GO BOTH AT THE FEDERAL AND STATE LEVELS.

    3. THE PRESIDENT MUST SELL OFF ALL THE AIRCRAFTS IN THE PRESIDENTIAL FLEET (the Prime Minister of Britain, a much bigger economy does not have one and travels with British Airways).

    4. THE PRESIDENT’S SALARY AND ALLOWANCES MUST NOT EXCEED $200,000 (our President has no reason whatsoever, to earn more than the American President……. for what?)

    5. THE PRESIDENTIAL VILLA MUST BE SOLD OUT AND BE REPLACED WITH NO MORE THAN A 6BEDROOM HOUSE (the British Prime Minister lives in a 3-bedroom apartment).

    6. FEEDING IN THE PRESIDENTIAL AND VP LODGE SHOULD NOT BE MORE THAN 1MILLION NAIRA PER MONTH. (Presently it is 90 million Naira per month for both).

    7. NO LEGISLATOR SHALL EARN MORE THAN A PERMANENT SECRETARY.

    8. NO GOVT OFFICIAL SHALL HAVE MORE THAN ONE OFFICIAL CAR.

    9. NO GOVT OFFICIAL OR APPOINTEE WOULD BE ENTITLED TO FOREIGN MEDICAL TREATMENT (whatever is provided for the citizens should be good enough for our officials).

    10. THERE SHALL BE NO OFFICE OF THE FIRST LADY AT THE FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL GOVT LEVELS.

This is our SOCIAL CONTRACT. Don’t just re broadcast, join the PROTEST: it’s a MUST.God bless Nigeria

  35. oga goodluck, dis u re doin to nigerians is not de best. De pple around u dat u cal good pple re bad.Go to men of God 4 prayers and to ask God to 4 give u 4 de pple dat lost dere life becus of dis subsidy and i pray, God wil 4give u, 4 dis.

  38. We should not also put all the blame on the police……….
Frankly speaking, I saw some area boys at Fadeyi Underbridge, Ikorodu Road, Lagos were using the protest as a means of robbing people…….. Some of them were with guns and cutlasses……
They were even shooting at some police whose came to monitor the protest……… I guest: the police men there do not want to record any killing so the area boys kept on shooting and displaying……
