Mike Sowe, the  ICPC’ s Head Public Enlightenment said the police officer had promised to manipulate the case in favour of the suspect, who had earlier pleaded with him to accept the sum of N300, 000.

He added that the ICPC set up an investigation when the suspect reported the matter to them, which eventually led to the arrest of the police officer after he had received N500, 000 in marked notes in the presence of ICPC operatives.

“The accused was subsequently arraigned on a four count charge for demanding and receiving gratification and for failure to report the offer of bribe.”

“At the conclusion of the trial, the accused was discharged on counts 2 and 4 but convicted on count 1 for demanding gratification and sentenced to 4 years imprisonment; and on count 3 for failure to report the offer of gratification and sentenced to 3 years in jail. Both sentences are to run concurrently,” the ICPC said.
