D’banj to Perform at BBC music event

Dapo Oyebanjo popularly known as D’banj is set to perform at the Hackney Weekend 2012 in London.

The Hackney Weekend is the UK’s biggest free ticketed music event which is put together by UK national radio station BBC Radio 1 and will take place on Saturday, June 23 and Sunday 24th June at the Hackney Marshes, London.

According to the BBC;

Hailing from Nigeria, Dapo Daniel Oyebanjo is an award winning singer-songwriter and harmonica player, claiming the title Artist of the Year at the 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards and Best International Act at the 2011 BET Awards. Self-producing albums in both Yoruba and English, his tracks recall the genius of Fela Kuti and bring Afrobeat to a global audience. Also known as the Kokomaster, his mega hit Scapegoat is ever- present on the airwaves across Africa. With last year seeing D’banj signed to Kanye West’ s G.O .O.D Music label, the self-styled African Michael Jackson is not one to be missed. Expect good things when he brings his charismatic performance to Hackney Marshes.

There will be performances across the Main stage, Dance Arena, 1Xtra stage, In New Music We Trust stage, Outdoor stage and BBC Introducing stage which will showcase a varied mix of UK and international artists.
