Delta State Government Approves N637m for Scholarships

The Government of Delta State has approved N637,933,644.52 for the payment of scholarships and bursaries for the 2010/2011 Students’ Special Assistance Scheme (SSAS).

Buchi Aninye, the chairman of the Delta State Bursary and Scholarship Board, MSGR, revealed this in an interview with journalists on Tuesday.

He said the payment to students would begin this week.

Mr. Buchi also stated that the state government was committed to the welfare of its indigenous students in tertiary institutions across the country, hence the payment of the SSAS.

He also added that the state scholarship and bursary board had other schemes including Local scholarships to student studying in Nigeria universities from undergraduate categories to PhD level, Scholarship to Recipients of First Class Honours to PhD level, Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship, Scholarship to Children of Deceased Civil Servants & Physically-Challenged Students, Bursary for Law Students in Nigeria Law School and others.

Mr. Buchi said;

“Our responsibilities are to formulate and implement policies as they pertain to scholarship and SSAS; maintain an up to date database on the actual number of students from the state in tertiary institutions in the country and overseas.

“We also monitor, from time to time, the progress of all beneficiaries of SSAS as well as other matters relating to the selection of suitable candidates to whom SSAS or scholarship may be granted.”

  1. They have started again! Is Buchi Aninye still the Chariman of that Board? I thought the board was dissolved some time ago, how come Aninye still talks about the activities in his former office now. Besides, Uduaghan should be sincere with himself and tell Deltans what he has done and is doing with their money. This is rather diversionary and phoney!

  2. The Governor of Delta E.E Uduaghan is doing a brilliant job. How and why are people comparing Delta with old states like Lagos etc. Delta is a new state. and things are happening you have to be on ground to know that.
    There are laudable achievements. Trust me! I was there for 5months so I know from within.
