How Sect Bombed Military Base

bombDETAILS of how members of the Boko Haram sect succeeded in penetrating Military formations in Maiduguri on Friday emerged yesterday, with the spokesman of the Joint Task Force, Lt. Col Hassan Mohammed, describing it as shocking.

The multiple blasts went off simultaneously at 3.45pm, barely two hours after the Jumat Friday prayers. This was in spite of the State of Emergency rule that still operates in parts of the state, with security operatives especially soldiers on many streets of the metropolis.

Mohammed told The Guardian that, “the three bomb blasts went off, after a car suicide bomber detonated two bombs at the mammy market, and ripped off structures of nearby buildings.”

Though eyewitness account said the blasts affected the Maiduguri military mammy market and the local wrestling arena in the Customs Area, injuring two soldiers, Mohammed, claimed, “no soldiers or civilians were killed in the bombing incident”.

The JTF spokesman, however, said that four of the suicide bombers were killed by the JTF, adding that the bodies have been deposited at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).
