SSS officer shot dead in Damaturu

A State Security Service (SSS) officer was late Sunday shot dead by unknown gunmen  in Damaturu, Yobe state.

Reports say Mamman Shettima was trailed by two gunmen who shot him close to his house in Ajari, near the Central Primary School, Damaturu.

According to a witness, two gunmen stormed the area at about 7:30 pm, and shot him at close range “We were sitting close to them, when the two men came and shot him. They first threw an explosive that made people to scamper for safety,” the witness said.

Another resident in the area was also quoted saying that the SSS officer was “sitting outside his house with some friends this evening when two gunmen came through the back street in Jeri district of the town and opened fire on him and killed him.”

The assailants quickly fled the area leaving the SSS officer in a pool of his own blood.

Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Lawal Tanko confirmed the incident but he said he was not certain if the officer died.

“We received report on the attack and discussed with the Director SSS. I learnt that he was shot at his thigh, but I am not sure if he is dead.”  The Yobe police boss said.
