Suspected Boko Haram Gunmen Attack Muslim Worshippers In Kano

Kwankwanso_28-04-11UNCONFIRMED number of persons were feared dead yesterday when gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram members opened fire on Muslim worshippers in the Sheka area of Kano metropolis.

The state Police command spokesman, Mr. Magaji Majia, a Superintendent of Police (SP), while confirming the incident, promised to give details later.

It was also gathered that the attack might have been targeted at some Boko Haram members who have renounced their membership.

As at press time, information still remained sketchy, as security agents tried to bring the situation under control.

Commissioner for Information, Youth Sport, Culture and Internal Affairs, Dr. Farouk Umar Jibril, told The Guardian that the incident happened around 6.30 pm at a mosque in the city as worshippers were saying their prayers.

He added that it was not yet clear who was responsible for the attack at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, persons suspected to be sect members were arrested in Kano yesterday by security agents.

Kano has been the target of Boko Haram attacks in the last one month.
