4 policemen killed as Bomb blasts rock Gombe

Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram members on Wednesday evening carried out a wave of attacks in Ashaka, Gombe State, attacking shops, police stations and banks.

Four policemen including a Divisional Police Officer were killed in the bomb attacks at Ashaka.

According to a nurse, a fifth police officer was critically wounded.

Explosions were also heard at Gaidam and Potiskum in Yobe State on Wednesday evening and also close to Nigerian border in Borno State around the same time.

Witnesses say that the explosions in Ashaka began at about 8 p.m. on Wednesday and it lasted for about an hour.

The Bomb blasts were followed by gunshots.

Residents took to their heels while the explosions lasted.

The Gombe State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Orubebe Ghandi confirmed the incident advising residents not to panic as the police were on top of the situation.

He said he was yet to receive the details of the incident but his men had commenced investigation into the incident.
