Fear Grips Yenagoa Over Multiple Killings

IG-AbubakarGirl, 22, Raped To Death

Man Orders Execution Of Two Boys

RESIDENTS of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital city, were yesterday gripped with fear following reported killings in the Gbarain and Elebele communities of Ogbia and Southern Ijaw Local Government Areas of the state.

While a 26-year-old girl was raped and killed by an unknown person(s), an aggrieved father (names withheld) reportedly ordered the slaughtering of two other persons in retaliation for the murder of his son.

Miss Bridgette Opusigi was raped on Friday and killed on the Opolo-Elebele road, with her naked body dumped at the premises of a popular church on the road.

An enraged father of an alleged murdered youth lost his patience with police investigation in the Southern Ijaw area of the state and sanctioned the killing of the alleged suspects in the murder.

A lady, identified as Tina and a friend of the deceased girl, had raised alarm that the 22-year-old rape victim had been missing since Wednesday.

“She (the victim) told us she was heading for church but she neither returned home nor picked calls made to her cell phone,” Tina said.

It was gathered that when the news of the incident got to her pastor in the church, a search was initiated and her naked body and her phone were found close to the church.

The matter has been reported to the police, who have commenced investigation.

In the case of the killings of the two youths in the Southern Ijaw community, it was learnt that the infuriated father of a victim allegedly murdered recently over some sour business dealings hired some youths to kill the persons, identified as Delta and Solomon Emmanuel, who supposedly stabbed his son, Ebibofa, to death.

The three deceased persons were reportedly friends before the tragedy occurred. But trouble started when they allegedly stole empty drums and handed them over to Ebibofa to sell and bring the proceeds for sharing.

But Ebibofa, it was learnt, sold the drums and refused to account for the money. The development was said to have incensed Delta and Emmanuel, who allegedly conspired to kill Ebibofa.

A source disclosed that the two aggrieved friends lured Ebibofa to a nearby bush, tied him to a tree and stabbed him to death.

The source said the father of the deceased went berserk when the report of his son’s murder got to him.

“The man recruited some youths who went in search of the accused persons,” the source said. “They found them and brought them to him but he ordered the mob to stab them to death.

“One of the boys died on the spot but the other one later gave up the ghost,” the source added.

The strange occurrence has caused commotion among the community members, who invited the police to arrest the man, who confessed at the Ammassoma Police Station that he ordered the execution of the two boys to avenge the killing of his son.

Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Eguavoen Emokpai, confirmed the incident and said the police were investigating the matter.

He said the suspect had made useful statements to help the police in their investigations. “The man has been arrested and he is making useful statements. The matter is under investigations,” he said.
