Call Adamawa INEC Commissioner To Order, NUJ Tells Jega

THE chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)Adamawa State council Mr. Andrawus Tarfa, has asked the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof. Attahiru Jega, to warned the Adamawa state Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC Alhaji Kassim Geidam, against his unconstitutional decision banning journalists from covering the activities of the governorship election petitions tribunal.

The NUJ boss, who described Geidam’s action as lawless and undemocratic, expressed great disappointment that the INEC officer [Geidam] was completely ignorant of the constitutional responsibilities of journalists in the country.

He said that Geidam’s decision to ban journalists from covering one of the tribunal’s activities taking place at the INEC premises raised questions on the transparency of the commission.
