TWENTYFOUR hours after attacking the Maiduguri Monday Market where a trader was killed, suspected gunmen also yesterday torched a primary and a secondary school in Gambouru ward of the metropolis at about 7pm.
Though no life was lost in the incident, hoodlums, however looted unascertained volumes of books and furniture for over half an hour.
No arrests were made yet by either the police or Joint Task Force (JTF).
Confirming the incident, yesterday in Maiduguri, Borno State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Samuel Tizhe, an ASP said that the suspected gunmen attacked the two schools with petro-bombs last night.
He said the affected schools include the Gambouru I Primary School and a secondary school in the same ward, adding that it was after the Maghreb prayers, that the suspects set fire on the schools.
With the torching of these schools, a total of 10 primary and secondary schools have been destroyed by the Boko Haram gunmen this year.
