Cleric Pledges To Create 10,000 Jobs In Kwara, Oyo, Lagos, Kano

NIGERIANS should not make the issue of job creation for the youth the exclusive responsibility of the government if the nation must come out of the challenges of joblessness, a renowned Christian evangelist, Sam Zuga has said.

At a press conference yesterday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, Zuga said his ministry would before the end of this year create more than 10,000 job opportunities for Nigerian youths.

The clergyman, who would today in Ilorin kick-start interview for more than 300 youths in Kwara, noted that the nation’s present security challenges could not be divorced from long neglect of the youths by successive administrations.

Other states targeted for the employment scheme include Oyo with a planned recruitment of 700 youths, while Lagos and Kano will each have 1,000 youths absorbed by the Sam Zuga Foundation.

According to him, those employed would cover all the branches of the ministry, which include health, agriculture, evangelism and skill acquisition.

Zuga, a native of Benue State, who had commenced his vision in Ghana before deciding to spread it to Nigeria, noted: “We will conduct interview for these youths tomorrow (today) and later, we will urge the state government to lend authenticity to the programme by asking it to present them letters of employment.

“Our employees will work with us. We will put them under on-the-job training. We will place them on basic salaries and those of them who are hard working will in turn have the ability to employ workers in future after undergoing our training.”
