ANPP wins Zamfara council polls, PDP, APGA kick

THE All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) at the weekend won all council chairmanship and councillorship seats in Zamfara State.

But the People’s Democratic Party and the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the State have rejected the result, saying the exercise was marred by irregularities.

Announcing the result of the election yesterday, the Chairman of the Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission (ZASIEC), Garba Muhammad Gusau, expressed satisfaction with the turnout of the electorate during the exercise .

He explained that the non conduct of the election in Gummi Council was as a result of the Supreme Court order to reinstate the former Chairman of the local council and his councilors whom were sacked by the Governor Ahmed Sani administration in 2004 to complete their tenure.

In a statement issued by the PDP yesterday in Gusau, the state capital and signed by the state party chairman Alhaji Ibrahim Mallaha, he said the party resolved to completely disregard the election because of the numerous irregularities carried out by the ZASIEC.

APGA’s National Secretary, Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi said his party rejected the outcome of last Saturday’s council elections in the state, describing it as “daylight robbery of democracy”.
