Imoke cautions against discrimination

CROSS River State Governor Liyel Imoke has urged residents of the state not to discriminate against children with special needs.

Responding to questions from children at a forum organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs in collaboration with an organisation of the governor’s wife, Mrs. Obioma Liyel Imoke,  in commemoration of 2012 Day of the African Child  in Calabar, Imoke maintained that he had special concern for those with special needs.

Imoke said that they should not be subjected to only vocational education because they had equal opportunities to be professors as well as leaders of the society.

According to the governor, just because a child is in special need does not mean he is not intelligent and disability does not mean he should be prevented from achieving his potential.

Imoke explained that emphasis should be on how to integrate them to become what God had destined them to be.
