PDP, Lawmaker, Aspirant Mourn Crash Victims

LAGOS State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the lawmaker representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Gbenga Ashafa and a gubernatorial aspirant under the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the coming election in Ondo State, Akinola Awodeyi-Akinsehinwa, yesterday expressed sadness over last Sunday’s Dana Air plane crash.

PDP Chairman in the state, Tunji Shelle, who led the leadership of the party on a sober visit to the site of the crash, expressed the party’s sorrow, describing the crash as unfortunate.

Shelle offered prayers for the souls of the departed and also urged the Federal Ministry of Aviation to be on its toes to prevent further occurrence.

Shelle particularly imploreded that the ministry to ensure that the root cause of the crash is unveiled and those found culpable punished to sanitize the industry.

On his part, Senator Ashafa described the crash as unfortunate. He also commiserated with the families of the 153 affected victims and prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims.

He prayed God to grant their families and the nation the fortitude to bear the “irreparable” loss and other tragedies that have befallen the country.

In a similar vein, Awodeyi-Akinsehinwa described the crash a national tragedy. “This is a trying period for our nation and I pray God grants the affected families the fortitude to bear the inestimable loss of lives. I pray the country never experiences this national calamity again,” he said.

Awodeyi-Akinsehinwa called for an overhauling of the aviation industry to avert another disaster.
