FOR the benefits of secondary school students preparing for the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and the National Examination Council (NECO), the Department of Classics, University of Ibadan, Oyo State, is staging Women of Owu, a school text for both examinations from 2 p.m. daily all through this week.
The organisers said to enable students attend the sessions, they had made the admission free. The venue is Theatre Arts auditorium in the school.
Head of Classics Department, Dr. Olakunbi Olasope, said the idea was to give students first hand performance experience of the creative environment of the play so as to ease their understanding of it while preparing for their final examinations.
Osofisan’s historical play about war, Women of Owu, is an adaptation of Greek’s Euripides’ play, Trojan Women, which held its command performance last Sunday at the Theatre Arts auditorium of the university.
Women of Owu is being performed in collaboration with Chevron Nigeria Ltd.
