The Centre for Continuing Education (CCE), Federal University of Technology Akure, invites applications from suitably qualified candidates into the following Short-Term Courses/Certificate Programmes (STC/CP) for the 2012/2013 academic session
A. CERTIFICATE IN CRAFT TRAINING PROGRAMME IN THE FOLLOWING:
i. Fitting/Machining
ii. Welding/Metal Fabrication
iii. Furniture Craft
iv. Electrical Installation
v. Refrigeration/Air Conditioning
vi. Draughtmanship
vii. Masonry (Bricklaying)
viii. Tile Laying
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
i. WASC/NECO/GCE or NABTEB attempted. Passes in at least two science subjects will be an advantage.
ii. Candidates who do not have the above stated requirements but have relevant professional qualification and/or practical working experience may be considered.
DURATION: Two (2) Years
B. PROFESSIONAL ENHANCEMENT TRAINING PROGRAMME
The Programme is for candidates pursuing:
i. Accounting Technician Scheme (ATS)
ii. ICAN Professional Examinations (ACA)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
As required by the professional bodies.
DURATION: Four Months and will run bi-annually:
January – April & July – October (Weekends)
C. EXECUTIVE CERTIFICATE IN GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
i. GCE O/Level or its equivalent with at least a Pass in English and Credit in three other subjects which preferably must include Mathematics, Geography/Technical Drawing.
ii. At least three (3) years working experience.
iii. Candidates who do not have GCE O/L but have relevant professional qualification and/or practical working experience may be considered.
DURATION: Three (3) Months (Full Time and Weekend runs are available)
D. COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN PROGRAMME FOR PROFESSIONALS
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
i. Five (5) Credits at WASC/NECO/GCE O’Level or NABTEB
ii. Ten (10) years experience in professional practice.
DURATION: Four (4) Months (Weekends: Fridays & Saturdays)
E. EXECUTIVE CERTIFICATE COURSE IN TEXTILE DESIGN, GRAPHICS/PRINTING TECHNOLOGY, CERAMICS, AND POTTERY DESIGN
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
At least two (2) Credits passes at WASC/NECO/GCE O’Level or NABTEB
DURATION: One (1) Year of three(3)Terms.
F. CERTIFICATE COURSE IN SPORTS SCIENCE
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
a. Candidates must have minimum of three credit passes at WASC/NECO/GCE O’Level or NABTEB.
b. Recommendation confirming cognate experience from Director of Sports, FUTA or from any other
institution endorsed by the Director of Sports, FUTA
DURATION: Three (3) Semesters
G. CERTIFICATE COURSE IN METEOROLOGY
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
i. Candidates must have five (5) O’Level WASC/GCE in any of the following: Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Additional Mathematics or any other relevant subject;
ii. World Meteorology Organization (WMO) Class II Meteorology Certificate normally required for Direct Entry in the Department of Meteorology and/or a minimum, of 7 years professional experience in any related field;
iii. Graduates in related disciplines like Geography, Geology, Geophysics, Physics, Mathematics, Agric. etc
DURATION: The Certificate course will be on full time and will last for five (5) months. This is made up of
one (1) semester of coursework and one (1) month of simple student research project.
H. CERTIFICATE COURSE IN FRENCH LANGUAGE
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
i. No previous knowledge of French Language is required as this is a beginner’s course.
ii. Ability to read and write English Language is the only requirement.
DURATION: Three (3) months of six hours per week.
I. COMPUTER TRAINING PROGRAMME (MORNING & EVENING SESSIONS):
Training programmes are available in the following:
i. Executive Certificate Course in Computer Studies (3 Months)
ii. Advanced Certificate Course in Computer Studies (3 Months)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
i. At least possession of Senior Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent for the Executive
Certificate Course.
ii. To qualify for the Advanced Certificate Course, candidates must obtain a minimum of Upper
Credit at the Executive Certificate Course.
J. CERTIFICATE COURSE IN POULTRY MANAGEMENT, ANIMAL PRODUCTION, FISHERY AND SNAIL FARMING (WEEKEND PROGRAMME)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Any literate Poultry/Fish farmer or those interested in Poultry/Fish farming can apply.
DURATION: Three (3) Months (Weekends: Fridays & Saturdays)
K. DIPLOMA IN FINANCE AND BUSINESS MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGY
With the trend of development at the global level, there is the need to introduce technology into the curricula of Business and Financial Management in Nigeria in order to develop a middle-level manpower that will produce a high performance management framework.
In view of the above, the Diploma in Finance and Business Management Technology of the Centre has been packaged into various options to achieve the objective.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
i. Candidates should possess O/L WASC, NECO, GCE or NABTEB at not more than two sittings with a minimum of credit passes in English Language and Mathematics and any other two relevant subjects.
DURATION: Two Academic Sessions of 4 semesters.
L. DIPLOMA IN FORESTRY AND RANGE MANAGEMENT
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
i. Four Credits including English Language and Mathematics, at WASC/NECO/GCE O’Level or NABTEB
ii. Mature candidates who have worked for at least five years in related area and who have undergone training at the Forestry Training School may be considered for admission.
DURATION: Two (2) Academic Sessions
M. DIPLOMA IN SPORTS SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
i. Four Credits including English Language, Mathematics, Biology and any other subject at not more than two sittings at WASC/NECO/GCE O’Level or NABTEB
ii. FUTA Certificate in Sports Science.
DURATION: Two (2) Academic Sessions
N. DIPLOMA IN LIBRARY MANAGEMENT
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
i. Four Credits including English Language and Mathematics, at WASC/NECO/GCE O’Level or NABTEB
ii. Mature candidates who have worked for at least five years in related area and who have undergone Certificate in Library Management may be considered for admission..
DURATION: Two (2) Academic Sessions
PURCHASE OF ADMISSION FORMS
Application forms are obtainable from the Office of the Administrative Secretary, Centre for Continuing Education, Federal University of Technology, Akure at the rate of Five Thousand Naira (N5,000.00) only for Diploma Programmes and Two Thousand, Five Hundred Naira (N2,500.00) only for all other Programmes.
Sale of forms starts from Monday, 2nd July, 2012 and ends on Friday, 5th October, 2012. Payment should be made at the Accounts Section of the Centre for Continuing Education.
CLOSING DATE FOR SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION FORMS
All completed application forms with the required relevant documents should be returned to the Short Term Courses/Certificate Programme Office of the Centre for Continuing Education not later than Friday, 19th October, 2012 for all Programmes
Candidates are expected to enclose four self-addressed stamped envelopes (35cm and 22.5cm) indicating the Programmes applied for at the top left hand corner of the envelopes.
