Robbers Snatch Teachers’ Salaries

A GANG of armed robbers at about 11.35am on Friday attacked Goniri town, Yobe State, snatching at gunpoint the salaries of teachers and fleeing towards the Damaturu-Biu road.

An eyewitness said the men came in a Volkswagen Golf car wielding two Kalashnikov rifles. They fired shots at the vehicle, which conveyed a cashier and the salaries.

Goniri is 84 kilometres south of Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

Confirming the incident, the state police commissioner, Patrick Egbuniwe, said the incident could have been averted, if the cashier had followed the advice of police and other security agents on safety procedure.

He said the robbers attacked the vehicle, which carried an undisclosed amount of teachers’ salaries, snatched the money and fled towards the Damaturu-Biu road.

He said no arrests have been made by either the police or the Joint Task Force (JTF) operating in Damaturu, the state capital and Potiskum.
