Violence Erupts in Plateau State Again as Nine Villages were Attacked

Nine villages in Riyom and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State were attacked early Saturday morning by suspected Fulani herdsmen, living over twenty people killed and several houses burnt.

According to Channels TV sources, the attackers were about one hundred and they stormed the Birom villages of Kakuruk, Kuzen, Ngyo, Kogoduk, Ruk, Dogo, Kufang, Kpapkpiduk, and Kai in Gashishi district of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area in a commando style and dressed in black attires with bullet proof vests and sophisticated weapons. Two security agents also met their untimely deaths in the early morning raid.

The attackers then proceeded to nearby villages in Riyom local government area where they destroyed properties and set houses ablaze but they were repelled by the people who got advance information of the attack in Barkin Ladi.

The representative of Barakin-Ladi and Riyom Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Honorable Simon Madwakon, confirmed the incident, describing it as unfortunate and barbaric which is coming at a time that all hands are on deck to bring lasting peace to the area.
