RVP and Arsenal FC; When Old Friends Bid Goodbye!

They say that when a friend hurts, it’s always harder to gulp down the bitter pill but for the generality of arsenal Faithfull’s across the globe, this is just more than a bitter pill, one they would not forget in a hurry however the streak of amnesia catches up with them. 15th of August last year, was the day, their talismanic midfielder cesc Fabregas bided them the hard goodbye in tears that almost seared their hearts. They had no other option but counted on the irresistible tide of amnesia to alleviate and assuage them of their grief. Exactly one year after, they have just been dealt the bigger blow. A stab on the face of the heart of every arsenal fan, a slap on their faces and an insult to everything they stood for. Their unsung hero, whose transfer sage had before now made waves across the media, took to the way of infamy and abandoned reasoning by choosing to trade his goods with archrivals, Manchester united for quite a good amount of money but which the credit would only go to the management who prefer the pounds to the trophies.

It is very much indeed, a huge juxtaposition and an irony of feelings. A perfect example of an oxymoron where they are being torn apart and consumed in the rivers of joy and sorrow. Something close to a dilemma where they know not, whether to share in the memories of the good old days with their talismanic midfielder  fabregas, who left them exactly 365 days ago or to hide the bitter pains of their now erstwhile captain who has chosen to path ways with them for their bitter arch rivals. It is not a way to think I must say.

As I write this piece albeit not being an Arsenal or a Manchester united fan, I have not gotten over the shock of this sad news but also good news to many others. My mouth is agape and spittle is almost dribbling out, please somebody tell me it is not true. My pen shiver on my sheet of paper and I am forever astounded by the venom of this one hell of a transfer. It is pretty too bad……. Leaving arsenal football club is not the reason why our ox is gored, neither is, his resolve not to play there forever, the reason for the fussing around but the reason why we can no longer go to our bed in one piece of mind is very clear, his resolve to join forces with the rivals. If it were in a war, it would amount to betrayal and his head must roll on a plaque. Despite that arsenal are not to war with united, courtesy demands that we add wit to the dispositions of our heart before coming to a conclusion. Had he sailed for the Spanish laliga or the serie A, he would have earned the sympathy, support and admiration of football pundits across the globe but the case of vying for a bitter rival; I refuse to be a party to.

It came indeed like a joke but alas the deed is done, the oil has just been split into the shores of the Atlantic such that not even the magic of science could separate them. RVP is gone but I hope he is gone for good. Few days from now, he would be adorned in the united colors and I wonder what his facial expression would be like. Ecstatic? Moody? or Joyful? only heaven knows. The mere sight of him in united shirts would no doubt rip the heart of arsenal fans from its wall but I say, let it pass and bid him your farewell.

Every cloud has a silver lining and every disappointment comes with a blessing even though it hardly does these days anyway. On the fair side of things, some twenty-four million pounds is too good a sum for the fees of a player or should we call him judas at this juncture, who has just a year on his contract and racing towards the demands of age. The funny part of the whole puzzle is: Arsene wenger won’t lose sleep over this, I hear him already saying he has got better replacement in the likes of giround and co. The French man got his palms wide open to be greased with wads of the royal pound sterling. But the sorrow and shame would be shared among Arsenal fans, each according to their own emotion.

A good time it was with him in the arsenal colors, scoring lots of goals that wouldn’t bring back the league cup home though. If he has chosen to go the way of Samri Nasri, who claimed to have gone away in search of greener pastures even though we all know why he left, let it be as he craves. But alas, he must know that the season would be rocked by a vanguard of booing’s from both Arsenal and football loving fans. In case I forgot, with the exception of united Faithfull’s. While Sir Alex Fergusson and Co. are ready to jubilate for the big catch, they should pray he is not caught up with the toressian, carolliain or shevchenkoan menace that may rob him of his scoring capacity for only then would they have the cause to go to the bars, drum the drums and pop the champagne. It is indeed a very sad one for arsenal fans, but history which can never be bribed I am sure would forever hunt the one that soiled their fun and robbed them of their pleasure neither would conscience.

A stab in the back it is to be apt, all for 24 million pieces of ‘SILVER”.

  1. @yungsilky: I ve better title for yr write up: THE PAINS OF AN ARSENAL FAN.U tried as much as possible to pretend as if u are not an Arsenal fan,but yr pains, bitterness & frustrations gave u up.We all pray to be fruitful in our endavours, but 7 unfruitful years in a club without ambition,in a club where more than 30 goals by an indiividual are not enough to win a trophy,in a club that sell at least a world class player per season demand a new adventure & a pursuit of self fulfilment & achievement.Arsenal ceased to b a rival to Man U about 7 years ago, since they failed to win a trophy.RVP moved to a superior & a club with ambition.
