Following the news that went round exactly a week ago that the authorities of the university of Maiduguri has shelved one academic session and also a further 3-months extension of the students holiday, the management of the institution has come out to debunk the claims while shedding more light on the ambiguity that clouded its interpretation in the national daily.
In a statement that was made available to pressmen yesterday in Maiduguri and also the official website of the institution by the chief information officer of the university,Mal. Mohammed Ahmed made it clear that while the cancellation of one academic session may be unconnected with the epileptic security situation that has robbed the state of its erstwhile glory as the home of peace, it hasn’t in no way affected other academic programs of the university. He went further to say that never was there a time that the resumption date for new and returning students got extended as was portrayed in the national daily that carried the said news and wonders where and how the story was birthed. In his exact words “for the avoidance of doubt, the senate of the university in its meeting held on the 28th of June 2012 approved calendar of dates and events as they will unfold in the 2012/2013 academic session……………..”
According to the said calendar, registration for first semester 2012/2013 session for all students(new and returning) commences from 3rd September 2012 and ends 22nd September 2012 while lectures begins for all students on the 24th of September 2012. The students should therefore shun any rumor making rounds and get ready for their fast approaching resumption back to school.
While wishing the entire students and management of the institution a happy Salah in advance, he seized the opportunity to appeal to members of the press to always cross-check and seek for clarification where necessary before rushing to the press.
