Her first claim to limelight could be attributed to her participation in the Idols West Africa competition in 2007, where she finished second behind eventual winner Timi Dakolo in a keenly contested grand finale. Since then, this vocalist and social crusader has not looked back as she has continued to serenade us with one hit song after the other. In 2008, her first single “In The Music”, gained her critical acclaim the following year at the prestigious Hip Hop World Awards where she carted home two awards that year for ‘Best Female Vocal’ and ‘Next Rated’ which has a brand new car reward attached to it.
A graduate of law from the Ambrose Alli University in Edo state, Omawumi Boma Megbele is an interviewer’s delight anyday, her wits and charm just seem to rub off on anyone who comes her way. Very articulate with a huge sense of humour, she would often spice her words with pidgin English spoken with all the nuances somebody from the Warri area of Delta state would. Being Street-wise, she says, is her survival strategy and it endears people to her, making her believable and reachable.
