CSR: MTN Comes To The Rescue Of Taiwo Lawal, One Year Old Boy Hit By Stray Bullet In The Head

Yesterday, we brought you the story of one year old Taiwo Lawal who was hit in the head by stray bullet from armed robbers gun while playing in his family compound in the Gbagada area of Lagos on Sunday. While receiving treatment at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), his father had made a passionate appeal to well meaning Nigerians to come to his aid as he had spent all his money.

The news today is, Mobile telecommunications giant, MTN, has paid the N500,000 needed to continue treatment for Taiwo. The company’s Public Relations Manager, Mr. Funsho Aina, made this known in a statement on Thursday in Lagos.

He said the company had paid the money into the account of the baby’s family member.

“We have paid the needed N500, 000 into the family’s account today in response to the PUNCH Metro’s story. Ceremonial cash presentation to the family holds tomorrow (Friday) at our Head Office, Golden Plaza, Falomo, Ikoyi,” Aina said.

This is what I call corporate social responsibility (CSR). Hopefully, other corporate bodies will emulate this worthy gesture in the future.
