Double Amputee Shot Dead By Police in Houston

A double amputee in a wheelchair was shot dead by Houston police after threatening officials with what turned out to be a pen.

Houston Chronicle reported that an employee at a nursing home for the mentally ill called police to report that resident Brian Claunch was acting aggressively against a caretaker who refused to give him a cigarette and a soda.

Claunch, who had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, was bound to a wheelchair after losing an arm and leg in a train accident. He cornered a policeman with his wheelchair and tried to stab him with what was later identified as a silver pen.

Claunch was ordered to drop the object, but he refused, the police official, taking no chance had to shoot him.
