UNIPORT Lecturer Allegedly Flogs Two Female Students For Loitering During Classes

Two female students of the University of Port-Harcourt, Choba, Rivers State, department of Linguistics and Communication Studies, faculty of Humanities, were flogged on Friday, Sept 21,2012, for gallivanting while class was going on.

The dean of the faculty, Prof O. M. Ndimele, flogged the two female students, while having LCS 100, with the 100 level LCS students, at the Convocation Arena of the school.

We have heard previous reports of Undergraduates flogged or asked to ‘Kneel down’ in schools like Convenant & others.

Although the incident has come and gone, one question that would last for quite a while is “why should a university student be flogged?”

  1. It is good to give corrections to those that deserve it no matter the level or age. I hope with the handing over of our pri&sec schools to churches and missionary,we will see more discipline being inculcated into the educational system and the society in general.

  2. I hail the Prof, with the spate of indiscipline exhibited by our undergraduates, a spill out from primary and secondary schools, most of who practices lesbianism and homosexualism, if that is one of the ways through which discipline can be instilled, so be it. Afterall, the degree to be awarded at the end of the day is for character and learning.

  3. This is plain nonsense! All of you that claim that such silly insulting behaviour should occur in universities in 2012 need to have your heads examined. I’m glad I’m done with university because we would definitely found out if the law allows such behaviour. It doesn’t matter if you think there should be stricter rules in universities. Lecturers flogging students should always be a NO NO!! There are other more mature ways of punishing students.

  4. Dis is naija. Where anything is possible. Is education by force??? I think the prof should be sent to a secondary school if he still wants to handle canes. Flogging students in a tertiary institution is wrong. Dis is bullshit…
