The University of Lagos branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has said that it will sue the Minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Rufa’i, for addressing the institution as Moshood Abiola University (MAULAG) at public functions.
The chairman of the union, Dr Karo Ogbinaka, made this clear at a news conference tagged, “Wrongful reappointment of Professor Barinemi Fakae as the Vice Chancellor of River State University of Science and Technology”.
Ogbinaka said: “We have been watching the minister at public functions, addressing UNILAG as MAULAG despite a court order that the name UNILAG should remain, pending proper legislation on the amendment bill that sets up the institution at the National Assembly and, of course, the consideration of the university’s community… We are seriously watching her to address UNILAG as MAULAG again, after which we would sue her for contempt of court.”
He pointed out that the minister had addressed UNILAG as MAULAG at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, but was cautioned. However, she had refused to desist from this anomaly.
