AWC 2012: Nigeria Overpowers Cameroon 2-1 In E. Guinea

The Super Falcons of Nigeria fought off the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon by emerging 2-1 victors in their opening Group B match at the ongoing AWC 2012 holding in Equitorial Guinea.

A first half volley from 20 yards by Onyinyechi Ohagugha opened Nigeria’s goal account on the afternoon but that celebration was short lived as the Cameroonians drew level via a spot kick converted by skipper Patience Mani after a Nigerian defender had committed an infringement inside the box.

More bite was introduced to the Nigerian attack with the introduction of Ngozi Okobi whose pull out found veteran Perpetual Nkwocha who wasted no time in connecting home with a diving header in the 90th minute to seal victory for the girls.

Nigeria plays Ethiopia next at the same venue – Nkoantama Stadium, Bata on November 1.
