Eid-el-Kabir: Muslims Opt for Cows, Camels as the Price of Rams Soar

This year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration is most definitely going to be different from the previous ones in the country. Information filtering in has revealed that the prices of rams have skyrocketed. Although some have come out to deny this development, news that continues to come in shows that this might indeed be the case.

Reports have it that Muslims Kano State have resorted to contribute money with their friends and relatives to buy either cow or camel to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir as the prices of rams had gone beyond their reach.

According to the Tribune, investigations conducted revealed that the prices of rams had gone high due to the prevailing security situation in some parts of the North where traders were afraid of travel to avoid being killed. Most people who were interviewed said Borno and Yobe states, which were the major routes through which traders brought rams to the North, had become impassable due to attack by gunmen.

Also, it was further discovered that the recent flood that ravaged some parts of the North, washed away many rams which were being reared for Sallah. Last year, an average ram sold for between N15,000 and N20,000 but this year, the price had either doubled or tripled.
