Happy Independence Nigerians! Are there any Positives to Hold on to as We Celebrate “Low-Key”?

As the country celebrates her 52nd anniversary, the leaders in the country have charged Nigerians to focus on the positive side and remain hopeful. Right from the President to the Senate President, and even the Lagos Sate Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola – the message remains that of optimism and positivity.

Also Nigerians have been urged to remain united no matter what we are facing. Our leaders have continuously assured us that there will be light at the end of the tunnel.

So, today we should close our eyes to the darkness surrounding us; we should walk away from the killings going on all over the place; we should pretend as if there are no floods ravaging every parts of the country; yes, today we should live as if there is no scarcity of petrol in the land! There must be some positivity somewhere we can hold on to; we should find it and latch on to it. And as we do so… so help us God.

What positive thing about this country have you identified, which intend to share with the people as the glimmer of hope today? Please feel free to share.

  1. Indeed Nigeria is not the worst place to live! But I must warn, let it not be a diversion from the hydra headed corruption that has eaten deep the fabric of the Nigerian Society, let it not be an excuse not to find an enduring solution to the mindless and senseless killings perpetrated by the enemies of the Nigerian project.

As I make this contribution something in me tells me to stop and do a better thing as almost every attempt made to make our leaders cut on their excesses-looting of public funds, over bloated cabinet, diversion of project funds, poor implementation of budgets, personal aggrandizement of wealth to the detriment of the collective good of Nigerian people, insensitivity to the near collapse of almost all the sectors of the economy including infrastructural breakdown, masterminding poor democratic culture and values to the undue advantage of the privileged few the “philosopher kings”, has continually proved abortive.

My dear President, Governors, members of parliament, ministers, commissioners, and other categories of leaders, may I use this opportunity to salute you as we celebrate 52nd Independence anniversary. With due respect, may I remind you that Nigerians need just very little from all of you- security, good roads, electricity, potable water, enabling environment for investments and industrialization to generate employment opportunities for the teeming Nigerian graduates.

    Happy independence Nigerians
