If we manage our resources well, Nigeria shouldn’t be a poor country – Gbenga Daniel

Former governor of Ogun State, Chief Gbenga Daniel, has disclosed that wastage of Nigeria’s natural and human resources was the major hindrance to economic growth in the country. Chief Daniel equally blamed the managers of the country’s economy as not doing enough to take the country out of its present sorry state.

The perpetually smiling former governor made this disclosure on Friday night when he was honoured with the highest award by the Chartered Institute of Economists during its 5th Fellow Chartered Economists Dinner Award of Fellow Night, held in Abuja.

According to him, “the major challenge being encountered by Nigeria, a 52-year-old nation is mismanagement of our economy. As a two-term governor, I saw wastage in government circles. I have no doubt in my mind that until professional economists were given their pride of place, the country won’t move forward.

“The question is: why then do we not have professional economists in key government circles? I’ve always said that until we economically manage our resources, the resources will never go round… If we have 160million people and the national budget is judiciously used, I’m sure
Nigeria will solve her problems. If we manage our resources well, Nigeria shouldn’t be a poor country,” he stated.

  1. Dear Daniel, how much resources were you able to manage to better the lives of the people when you were the governor of Ogun state? You claimed a people don’t even exist in the map of the state because you were never ready to extend a hand of development to them. Look at the scandal of fraud around you. This is the height of hypocrisy. People like you should not make national comments but hide their faces in shame period.

  2. Clement, thanks for ur comment. Gbenga Daniel does not deserve to speak in the gathering of the living.8years of his govt was hell in Ogun-state.He so believe he can do anything and get away with it.He is actually the same person people refer to as devil.Am still waiting for God to give him his due reward for all he did in Ogun.
