Igbo Traders Mourn Killing Of Kinsmen In Zaria… Close Shops In Protest

Igbo Community in Zaria, Kaduna State has directed all its members to close their business premises in Sabon Gari area of Zaria to protest and mourn their kinsmen killed recently by unknown gunmen.

According to a statement issued and signed by the President General and Secretary General of the Igbo Community, Chief Emeka Uzo and John Igwe, Igbo traders are expected to close their shops today and tomorrow.

Two unidentified gunmen riding on a motorbike a week ago stormed a relaxation spot in Zaria at about 8pm killing a medical doctor, one other person and injuring another.

The Igbo community stressed that the spate of killings in Zaria needed immediate government intervention.

The statement also noted that there had been series of threats to lives and property by unidentified killers, which had made the situation very worrisome, forcing many of them to relocate from the area.

The association advised that since all the killings were perpetuated by men on motorcycles between 7pm and  9pm, motorcycle riding period should be restricted to between 6am and 6pm, adding that Igbo victims of the April 2011 post-election crises had not been compensated.

  1. Igbos are peace loving and hard working people,a greater percentage of them do not depend on govt as it is the case in the north & western part of Nigeria…I wonder why these set of people(igbos) ve become becomes in the everyday killings perpetuated in the north & sometimes in the south…we definitely need an igbo leader to replace the vacuum left behind by Ojukwu
