Morgues Congested in Maiduguri Following Multiple Civilian Deaths

After a nearby bombing on Monday killed a lieutenant, a hospital worker in Maiduguri says the hospital officials have had to turn away bodies because their morgue ran out of space after more than 30 civilians had been killed.

According to the worker, the Maiduguri General Hospital collected 32 bodies on Tuesday following the Monday violence in the city. The bodies were scattered on the floor of the morgue for hours after being dropped off by a truck.

The worker said the remaining bodies had been taken to nearby Umaru Shehu Ultra-Modern Hospital to ease the congestion of the Maiduguri General Hospital morgue.

According to AP reports, soldiers apparently attacked a neighborhood after a nearby bombing Monday killed a lieutenant. Military officials have declined to comment about the attack.
