29th September and the 1st of October 2012 respectively will be days the families and loved ones of the almost 28 students of the University of Maiduguri and the Federal Polytechnic Mubi, Adamawa state respectively will never forget in a hurry. It was the day, life was sniffed out of young and vibrant students bustling with life and the ever determination to be the instrument of change for their dear country, but unfortunately enough, they will never wake up to this dream, at least not in this life maybe in the next.
Harbingers of death out of the blue made this dream a futility. They sniffed life out of peace loving Nigerians who came from diverse distances in search for knowledge which they say is power, they robbed them of the sanctity of their life and to their families, they have caused a wound that may never heal And I ask: who killed these students who were innocent in every sense of the word?
Some said they were cultists, others blamed it all on the Islamic fundamentalists and the media has blamed it all on the ‘unknown ‘ gunman but nobody has come up to tell us who this gun man is. Indeed it was like a dream when I heard of the incident and am not alone in this. I hope to wake up and discover it’s all untrue. The senate sitting today has condemned the attack in all entirety and with the presidency registering its unhappiness I hope it compensates the bereaved families.
In what seems as a change of attack, students have now become targets of these un-known gunmen. It’s even more painful given the fact that these attacks are coming on the heels of our 52nd independence anniversary. Whoever may be responsible for the gruesome murder of these students certainly will never see the light of the day;Not in this life where the law of Karma and its consequences will forever get hold of us. Shizzy, Halima and co. God knows you were peace loving individuals before agents of doom chose to cut this long journey short. We may not get to finish this life race together, but certainly we shall meet in the next one.
To the families of the deceased, may I officially via this media express my disappointment. I can feel your pain but God knows why. My thoughts are with you and may God give you all the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

  1. What a touching piece! I’m joining you to extend mine, and as such may their souls rest in peace. For the wicked ones that did this, you are out for trouble. Watchout for your doomsday sooner.

  2. Its really sad that events like this keeps happening and how traumatised the remaining students and families of the dead will be at a moment like this. But one thing is for certain God know neither sleeps nor slumber will surely visit his anger and judgement upon the wicked. I pray that God grant the families the fortitude to bear this loss.

  3. Let the killer continue killing,’unknown’ guman, continue ‘gunning’ at will in the churches, mosques, schools and everywhere! One day,you shall reach a point of no. Return and all your atrocities will be replayed for you,and you shall have a taste of the dish you’ve been offering others! May the soul of the dead rest in peace!

  4. I am almost 60yrs old now. During the 1966-70 Nigerian civil war yrs I was a teenager running daily from town to town with my parents in then Midwest/Eastern region for safety/security. Though it was real war and death everywhere but the youths of my days then, felt and were safer in all Southern Nigeria than the youths in current Northern Nigeria. Nobody/soldier on both sides of the ever challenging front line ever gathered 2, 3, 10, 20, 40, etc unarmed youths/students and slaughtered them just like what happens now in ATIKU’s Adamawa state! So Nigerian Youths should now know that War has been declared on them by the Political/Religious/Economic class. It may be Mubi yesterday, Jos today and Ibadan/Enugu/Uyo tomorrow the way things are going. So be vigilant dear Nigerian Youths to be alive. Never allow yourselves to be gathered together again for slaughter. Be warned – the Politicians/Police can never save u. The Judiciary can never give u justice. No part of the country is safe for the youths. Be prepared always to save yourself. If you can not leave the environment/area/relocate.
