Some Fulani herdsmen were on Monday night attacked at Bisichi village by a group of gunmen who opened fire on them, killing 12 cows while 12 of them were also hit by the assailants’ bullets.
According to a statement issued by the Special Task Force (STF) in charge of security in the state, signed by the Media/Information officer of the Force, Captain Salisu Mustapha, the cows were migrating from Bisichi village to Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna state when they were attacked.
“The gun men shot 12 cows dead and injured 12 others. When the report of the attack reached STF personnel at Hiepang, they rushed to the scene but the attackers had escaped,” he said.
Mustapha said investigation into the incident had commenced to bring the perpetrators to book.
He said that following the gun attack, the STF Commander, Maj. Gen. Henry Ayoola, held a meeting with stakeholders to sympathise with the owners, assess the loss and to avert a recurrence. The meeting, he said, was attended by Chairman of Barkin Ladi LGA, Mr Emmanuel Loman and the Secretary of Jos South LGA, Gideon Danderang, and many people made donated to the victims.
“In that meeting an agreement was reached that owners of the cows should be supported financially to cushion the loss and assessment of the loss be made to make the perpetrators compensate when apprehended. At the end of the meeting, a total of N250,000 was realised with Loman and Ayoola donating N100,000 each.”
