AWC 2012: Super Falcons To Face Lionesses Of Cameroon In Third Place Play Off

Yesterday evening, the Banyana Banyana of South Africa lived up to their promise of giving the Super Falcons a run for their money and skills as they defeated the Nigerian girls 1-0 to qualify for the final of 8th African Women Championship in a gruelling encounter inside the Nkoantoma Stadium.

A first half goal from Janine Van Wyk, was all the Joseph Mkhonza-tutored ladies needed to send packing the reigning African Champions and in the process recorded their first win over the Nigerian ladies in female football history.

All efforts of the Super Falcons to comeback proved futile as they couldn’t convert begging chances that came their way.

With this result, the Super Falcons recorded their second ever loss in the history of the competition and have been condemned to face the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in the third place play off on Sunday, Nov 11, while South Africa will face hosts Equatorial Guinea in a repeat of the 2008 finals.
