Education, not luck, has brought me where I am today – President Goodluck Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has called on Nigerian youth to depend on education and not luck as insurance for their future success. The president said this at the inauguration of the Jigawa State Academy for the Gifted at Bamaina in Birnin-Kudu.

The president has been on a 2-day visit to the state and he is also expected to lay the foundation for an airport estimated at N5bn in Dutse, the state capital.

According to President Jonathan, “Some journalists used to ask me about luck and I told them that as much as there is luck, education is the major determinant of success. I could not have been where I am today if I am not educated… You have to prepare yourself,” the president added.

This is rather interesting, and ironical, for someone whose steady rise to the top in the country has been severally attributed to sheer luck, especially as his name also depicts same. Meanwhile, expressing his delight at governor Sule Lamido’s efforts at promoting peaceful co-existence, the president gave kudos to him for his strides at improving the quality of education in the state.
