Former Obasanjo Critic Makes U-Turn, Says Nigeria Needs Men Like Him

A former member of the National Assembly and outspoken critic of former president Obasanjo’s administration, Senator Joseph Waku, has in a nostalgic manner, said the country needs an individual with leadership qualities of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, to stabilise its polity.

Senator Waku, who made this disclosure while speaking to newsmen at his country home in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, at the weekend, stated that  security challenges facing the country in recent times had shown that it needed someone with iron fist to nip the challenges in the bud.

According to him, “in as much as I criticised Obasanjo throughout his administration, I have realised that his leadership quality is the type we need if the nation is to attain the discipline in governance and curb the rising scale of corruption in the country.

“Forget what you hear or see in European countries or the United States (US), Nigeria is not yet ripe for that, so we need someone with high handedness to rule this country.”

  1. Why are we always thinking of going backward instead of forward? In which way is OBJ better than IBB? If OBJ have militarily and democratically ruled nigeria with iron fist, why have we resulted to him and him alone? OBJ was the first nigerian head of state to empty the nation’s treasury without anybody bringing him to book. He denied Awolowo chance to win for fear of being probe. Today, OBJ is clearly telling the south-east- western states of nigeria that they are not nigeria. In his eight years of iron fist, he left nigeria miserable for any southerners to govern. Today, OBJ is preaching a politics of tribalism. For eight years there was nothing to make new into nigerian developement other than selling all the government parastatals to the extend of acusing his vice president of profiting from it. The GSM was a corporate work of late Abacha. Up till now, Nigeria can not dream of uninterupted power supply due to PDP effort’s to make average nigeria to suffer. If the ex heads of states are not relevant why are they being paid? Suporters of OBJ, PDP and northern president are enemy of the progress of nigeria. Chief Rochas Okorocha is an undiluted political helms that needed to be sustained and elevated. Most of the governors from the south-east-western state are better than those from the said northern states. Take for instance, a governor that could not save his state indigenes from the attack of boko haram, what would he be able to do when it comes to national issues?
