If information emerging from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) quarters is anything to go by, then people who are fond of harassing the youth corps members will now have to think twice before they do so.
The Deputy Director, Publications of the NYSC, Mr. Peter Atilola, has said NYSC members were being trained on martial arts to defend themselves when the need arose. Atitiola told newsmen in Abuja that “NYSC is collaborating with all states, local government areas and security agencies to provide adequate security and protection for them and their property… Apart from provision of security tips handbook, NYSC members are also being trained on martial arts to defend themselves when the need arises.”
The initiative, a welcome development indeed, was first adopted by Ogun State directorate of NYSC. However, the idea has been greeted with mixed feelings by old and new NYSC members.
Meanwhile, as the current batch of NYSC members have just resumed camp, it will be too early to be able to ascertain if the martial arts training has indeed been introduced nationwide as mentioned by the NYSC spokesperson.
they realy need it 4 self defence
After training them, they will now finish and start using it to cause problem in the society like stealing, robbery, election thugs etc if they don’t get a job after the service year
