The possibility of Justice Ayo Salami returning to the Appeal Court as its president was further dealt a deadly blow as President Jonathan approved the appointment of Justice Zainab A. Bulkachuwa as the Acting President of the appellate court on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC).
A statement by the council’s spokesperson, Soji Oye, on Thursday, disclosed that Bulkachuwa would be sworn in today by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Maryam Aloma Mukthar, in acting capacity.
“President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the appointment of Justice Zainab A. Bulkachuwa as the Acting President of the Court of Appeal, following the recommendation of the National Judicial Council.
“The appointment of Justice Dalhatu Adamu as Acting President of the Court of Appeal expires tomorrow, 23rd November, 2012,” the statement read.
Her ascension would further the streak of history being recorded by the womenfolk in the judiciary, as the two apex courts in the land, the Supreme Court of Nigeria and the Court of Appeal, would be manned by women.
