Nigeria needs someone with high-handedness like Obasanjo to rule – Senator Waku

Ironically, Senator Joseph Waku happens to be one of the most ardent critics of the former president, Olusegun Obasanjo and his administration. But, in a rather disturbing change of opinion, the former member of the National Assembly has said the country needs an individual with leadership qualities of former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, to stabilise its polity.

Senator Waku was speaking to newsmen at his country home in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, at the weekend when he made this assertion. He stated that the security challenges facing the country in recent times had shown that it needed someone with high handedness to nip the challenges in the bud.

In the word of Waku, however, said “in- asmuch as I criticised Obasanjo throughout his administration, I have realised that his leadership quality is the type we need if the nation is to attain the discipline in governance and curb the rising scale of corruption in the country… Forget what you hear or see in European countries or the United States (US), Nigeria is not yet ripe for that, so we need someone with high handedness to rule this country.”

During his term, the senator represented Benue North-West senatorial district between 1999 and 2003.
