A gun battle between officers of the Kogi State Police Command and robbers attempting to rob one of the new generation banks in Lokoja, the State capital has led to the death of two of the robbers, while two others were arrested.

The armed robbers numbering six stormed the new generation bank in Lokoja around 11 am but were confronted by the police before they could gain entrance to the bank.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the gun duel, the State Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Musa Katsina said the armed robbery gang came to the premises of the bank attempting to rob customers who came to transact business.

According to him, the robbers who are from Imo state has already taken positions for the operation when intelligence report got to the ambush squad of the command, adding that they mobilized and confronted the robbers who engaged them in a gun battle while trying to escape.

Luck he said ran out of the robbers when they ran into the bush where two of them were gunned down, two others arrested while two escaped.

Katsina said the police did not record any casualty during the gun battle, adding that they are on the trail of the two escaped suspects and their accomplice.

Items recovered from the robbery gangs are pistols, rounds of cartridge and one power bike.

The Commissioner who gave the named of those arrested alive as Kenneth Nnorom and Vincent Madu assured the public that the command is ready to combat crime in the state to ensure a crime-free festive period.
