Abduction of Wife of Former Military Governor: Kidnappers did not demand N200 Million – Police

Nigeria_Police_logoJust exactly as it was, shortly before the release of the mother of the minister of finance, Oyo State Police Command has debunked the alleged N200 million ransom, demanded by the abductors of the wife of former military governor of the defunct Western State of Nigeria, Brigadier-General Oluwole Rotimi.

This has been made known by the acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Oyo State, DSP Ayodele Lanade, in an interview with the Nigerian Tribune. He said the police authorities in the course of investigation, discovered that the alleged N200 million ransom demanded by Mrs Titilayo Rotimi’s abductors was untrue after all.

According to him, the police “discovered a foul play in the manner in which Mrs Rotimi was kidnapped within the premises of her haulage company-AOP Logistics Limited, at Kilometre 4, New Ife Expressway Road, Ibadan… She was still inside her car inside the company, being driven by her driver when the green Primera, which we learnt had been parked directly opposite the company, came to block her vehicle with a reverse and taken away by the occupants of the car. We suspected the manner she was kidnapped.

“Through a preliminary investigation by the divisional police officer of the area, it was discovered that the woman was owing her workers three months salary and that some of them while protesting their cause within the premises were sacked… The scenario gave a picture of takeover and handover process because all that were involved gave a clue to complicity among her workers. This is because the incident happened right inside her company’s premises and not outside. Her driver and security details were all at hand,” Lanade said.

Meanwhile, on the N200m ransom demanded by the kidnappers, the Oyo Police Command image-maker said, “the police tried to locate the end at which the message which was claimed to have sent the message, but we discovered that the said message had no source. I want to state categorically that no family members were contacted by the kidnappers or was such amount involved. On behalf of the Oyo State,Commissioner of Police, CP Mbu Joseph Mbu I’m appealing to the public or anybody that has information as to the whereabouts of Mrs Rotimi to help the police as we work on information. We ‘re also appealing to the kidnappers, we’re not threatening them to release Mrs Rotimi without further delay.”
