Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has raised alarm over the existence of a fake Facebook account purpoted to belong to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Admiral Ola Sa’ad Ibrahim.
This was made known by the Defence spokesman, Colonel Mohammed Yerima, who alerted members of the public over the scam. He said that the facebook account with the name ‘Chief of Defence Staff’ “has the official picture of the CDS.”
Nigerians have then been warned by the DHQ that the Chief of Defence Staff or Defence Headquarters does not operate any official Facebook account or page. Consequently, it warned that “anybody who transacts any business or makes any comment in the said fake Facebook account does so at his or her own risk, as DHQ views this as a criminal act and effort is being made to trace and bring the perpetrators to book.”
This development is not only unsurprising, but is in fact nothing when compared to the fact that the database of the country’s State Security Service (SSS) was hacked into some months ago, a rather very disturbing development.
