Ex-Governor’s Convoy Crushes 18-Year-Old Pedestrian

The convoy of former governor of Gombe State, Senator Danjuma Mohammed Goje, on Friday night crushed to death an 18-year-old man, Haruna Maigari in Tumu village of Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.

Two other persons, namely Jalo Bappa-Sabo and Umar Adamu, both 16-year-olds, also sustained injuries as a result of the incident.

A Police Investigating Officer (IPO) confirmed to newsmen in Tumu village yesterday, at the Pindiga Police post, that the incident occurred on Friday night at about 7pm.

According to him, on Friday around 7:30 pm, he received a call from the police office in Tumu that there was a fatal accident, and that his assistance was needed to enable them take the victims to the hospital.

He rushed to the hospital in Tumu, only to discover that they had been admitted into the Emergency Ward. According to the IPO, Senator Goje came to Tumu that evening to condole with the family of Alhaji Maigari Maimanja, father of the deceased, over the death of his sister.

After the commiserations, when the Senator’s convoy was about to leave, one of the cars in the convoy hit the victims; Haruna Maigari who died in FMC Gombe while Jalo Bappa-Sabo sustained injuries on the head.

Alhaji Maigari Maimanja confirmed to Leadership over the phone that Senator Danjuma Mohammed Goje visited him on Friday night to commiserate with him over the death of his sister, but while leaving at about 7pm with his convoy, one of the cars crushed his son and wounded two others.

According to him, the police took his son to a hospital in Tumu, before he was referred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Gombe, where he died.

The Gombe State Police Public relations Officer (PPRO), Fwaje Atajiri told newsmen that he was yet to get the detailed report on the incident.
